First, you can’t really compare an airsoft sniper rifle to a real steel gun. You cannot compare a 6mm bb traveling at 500 fps to a .416 caliber bullet traveling at 2675 fps. But airsoft is the closest thing that you can get to it, just don’t go and spend $500 bucks+ if you are looking for real steel results. Now that we got that out of the way…welcome to the world of sniping. A sniper is not like a foot solider, they don’t come right out in front as if to say, “Hey look at me I have a gun and I am going to fire as many rounds at you until you fall down. The sniper comes into battle when a well placed round is needed to take care of an important target. If you have come to sniping looking for non-stop action go buy a fancy AEG. Snipers blend themselves in with their surroundings, and try to become one with them. So enough of talk lets get on with it…<br>
What is needed to become a sniper:
1.) First thing that you need is a gun. Preferably an upgraded one, to take out enemies from long distances.
A. VSR-10 (if you feel comfortable upgrading every single internal.)
2.) Optics. Every sniper rifle should have an optic for easy targeting.
A. Scope(preferably 3-9x)
B. laser(only if nothing else)
3.) Camouflage. You need this to be able to blend in with your surroundings, so you can stay in a position for a longer period of time
A. Ghille suit. These are perfect; they help you break your body line that makes you distinct.
B. BDU’s (battle dress uniforms) these are good for certain fields.
1.) The gun:
A sniper is all about his gun; it is his personal item to change to his likes and dislikes. To be an affective sniper, you need to have an effective gun. A good gun for a sniper is a VSR-10. These guns need to be upgraded to out perform other guns on the field. To upgrade a gun you will need to buy certain parts for your gun. For a 450 fps gun on VSR-10 you will need:
1. First Factory PSS10 130 spring
2. First Factory spring guide
3. First Factory cylinder head
4. First Factory trigger sear
5. First Factory piston sear
6. First Factory spring stopper
7. First Factory piston head
8. TN barrel (6.03)
These are all the internals that you would need for a VSR-10. Now the externals, to make your gun look and feel awesome (still with the VSR)
1. Tokyo Marui tactical bipod
2. First Factory or Tokyo Marui scope mounts
3. 3-9x tactical scope
4. Tokyo Marui tactical sling
That is what you will need for a gun to work well (especially a VSR-10 pro)
Now we will get into making the perfect hits, what hits to make, how to practice and how to use different tactics.
Taking the shot:
The most important feature of a sniper is the ability to wait patiently. If you become a sniper then you won’t have to worry about buying massive amounts of bbs. The object of a sniper is to make an important hit, maybe an assassination, maybe another sniper, maybe just another player. First thing that you need to do is find a good position where you can see most of the playing field. Then choose a spot about 50 feet wide and about 50 feet long and go over that space of land until you are sure that there is no one hiding in tall grasses or in a Ghille. Then move over to the next plot of land, then the next. When you find someone, take your time on him. If he is sitting still then you don’t have to take a shot the second he passes into your scope. Study the wind before you take the shot, adjust to the range, and then when you are ready breathe in …6 seconds…breathe out, do that three times then breathe in 6 seconds, hold, line up cross hairs and squeeze the trigger. Be careful that when cocking the bolt back for the next shot that you don’t move around so much that it will give away your position.
Stalking:
Stalking is basically following your target, behind him until you have to opportunity to take a good clean shot at him. To stalk you need to have patience, and skill to do it correctly. One way of stalking is called the “sniper’s crawl.” This is when you have your gun on your back and you are flat on your belly pushing your way slowly with your feet. You push yourself a few feet…stop, watch target…push a few feet…and so on. Another form of stalking is using various covers around the area to your advantage. You watch your target and then you follow him very quietly and hide behind cover as you go along; this is for quicker stalkings, and finding a position to fire quicker. But it is also less stealthy. If you are ever walking across gravel, to keep as quite as you can take hard steps, set your foot down on the stones, THEN push pressure on them and take a step with the other foot. This helps keep the gravel from moving, creating less noise.
Target Detection:
Target Detection is one of the most important factors in sniping. You must be able to take an area of land and spot another camouflaged target. Like I said take 50 feet of land and go over specific areas where someone would most likely hide. Try and spot out a ghillie by looking if the foliage around a certain area matches in color, similar length. Some ghillie’s might have things on them that don’t fit the area. Try to spot anything out of the ordinary and study it until you have a good enough idea on what it is to take a shot at it.
With the information I have provided you, if you use it well, it should help your sniping experiences a lot. No one can always make that perfect shot, especially in airsoft, but this should help you get close. So that concludes the majority of this guide. If I think of anything else I will add it, if you think of anything else, please make suggestions below and I will take them into consideration.
